Hormone Optimization

Overview

What is Hormone Optimization?

Pellet therapy uses hormones to replicate the body’s normal hormonal levels. Patients have found that bio-identical hormone replacement therapy with pellet implants is extremely effective. Implants, placed under the skin, consistently release small, physiologic doses of hormones that provide optimal therapy.

Unlike oral and transdermal forms of therapy – which produces “roller coaster” hormone levels, resulting in mood and energy fluctuations for the patient – the BioTE Medical Method using bio-identical hormone pellet therapy is the only delivery method of Hormone Optimization that provides sustained hormone levels throughout the day for up to three to five months without any “roller coaster” effect.

Studies have shown optimized hormones significantly reduce the risk of serious health problems such as:

What are Hormone Pellets?

Studies show that pellets are one of the most effective ways to deliver Hormone Optimization Therapy in both men and women. To create hormone pellets, a compounding pharmacist fuses estrogen or testosterone into small cylinders. These pellets, some of which are smaller than a grain of rice, are placed in the fatty tissue beneath the skin and most closely mimic the actions of healthy ovaries and testicles with regard to hormone release into the bloodstream. The hormone pellet implantation is an easily performed office procedure.

BioTE® Q&A: What Are Pellets Made Of?

Our friendly Biote Certified Providers are here to address any concerns patients may have about Hormone Optimization Therapy.

Precise Dosing Is Key

Proper hormone optimization levels are determined by the BioTE comprehensive bloodwork analysis. Unique dosing is generated for each individual patient, so dosing is customized for what your body needs. Pellets deliver bio-identical hormones directly into the bloodstream 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for up to 5 months. Pills, patches, creams and shots cannot provide a steady delivery of hormones 24/7. Pellets provide a constant supply of hormones that your body recognizes, which significantly reduces the chance of adverse side effects.

For Women

Bio-identical Hormone Optimization therapy using the pellet method has changed the manner in which women age. In the past, women died more frequently in childbirth, PMS was an imaginary problem, and menopause, with all of its age-related infirmities, was just another stage of life to be endured and lived with.

Today, we know that we don’t have to accept hormonal imbalance as a grim reality. Natural hormone replacement therapy has helped improve the quality of our lives. Some doctors continue to say that women should stop whining and embrace our menopausal woes, but why should we when the remedy is as simple as replacing missing hormones?

Testosterone Pellet Therapy

Studies have shown, testosterone hormone therapy can provide a woman with mental clarity, increased libido and muscle tone and mass. When this hormone is at low levels, women often complain of mental confusion, weight gain, and poor muscle tone, even with regular exercise.

The effect of hormone deficiency on the brain, muscle, bone, heart and metabolism can be significant without hormone replacement therapy for women, and it can be dangerous to long-term health. The brain needs normal amounts of testosterone in balance with estrogen to prtoduce serotonin, which supports emotional balance. When lacking in these hormones, a woman will experience emotional instability that often results in increased anxiety, irratability, sleep disturbances, anger, sadness and depression.

The musculoskeletal system is also adversely affected by the loss of testosterone. By not having bio-identical hormone therapy, the deficiency or imbalance of testosterone can lead to muscle atrophy, osteopenia, osteporosis, and pain in the muscles and joints.

Estrogen Pellet Therapy

Estrogen is a woman’s most important hormone. Studies have shown, without hormone replacement therapy, the loss of estrogen puts her at increased risk for osteoporosis, heart disease, colon cancer, Alzheimers disease, impaired vision, and Parkinson’s disease. The longer a woman is without the protection of estrogen, the greater the risk for serious health consequences of these coinditions.

There are estrogen receptors in a variety of organs throughout the body. That’s why hormonal imbalance produces different symptoms such as loss of skin elasticity, bone shrinkage, moodiness and cognitive decline. On the other hand, when estrogen levels rise as they do in the first week of menses, their overall effect is to increase the amount of serotonin available in the spaces between the brain’s nerve cells. That improves mood. Within the brain, estrogen may in fact act as a natural antidepressant and mood stabilizer.

For Men

Studies have shown, men begin losing testosterone at a rate of 3% to 10% per year beginning at age 30. Current medical research now defines a male equivilant to menopause as andropause. Because the testosterone used is totally natural, it is ideal for men who want the benefits of a bio-identical hormone without the drawbacks of a synthetic.

Symptoms of testosterone deficiency in men may include fatigue, lack of mental acuity, loss of libido, and difficulty achieving or sustaining an erection.

Bio-identical hormone pellet therapy is the only delivery method of testosterone therapy that gives sustained and consistent testosterone levels throughout the day for four to six months without any “roller coaster” blood levels of testosterone, which can result in mood and energy fluctuations for the patient.
